This webinar (available on two dates) is the fourth in the series focused on the importance of threat assessment and threat management (TATM) as a means of preventing or mitigating the risk of targeted violence. Delivered by one subject-matter expert (SME) who led TATM prevention efforts within his law enforcement agency and a second SME who is a licensed psychologist with the Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the webinar builds on the concept of TATM as an evolving solution to targeted violence. This presentation provides an overview of the North Carolina Behavioral Threat Assessment Investigation Overview (NCBIO-25) and the structured professional judgment approach that underpins it. Participants will explore the research, philosophy, and operational concepts behind behavior-based threat assessment; how the framework supports multidisciplinary TATM; and lessons learned from real world case examples. The presentation introduces the tool and its role in TATM but does not provide instruction on its use or scoring. This webinar is part of the Bureau of Justice Assistance State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) Program’s continued effort to assist law enforcement officers and criminal justice practitioners in identifying, investigating, preventing, and responding to acts of terrorism and targeted violence.
