Explore two real-world terrorist attacks through the firsthand experiences of the law enforcement professionals who responded to them. Participants will hear the account of a retired Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, police officer who survived an ambush by a homegrown violent extremist while on patrol and examine the 2015 San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack through the perspective of the first responder on scene. Key focus areas include the evolving terrorism threat to law enforcement, indicators of attack planning, threat mitigation, casualty care, personal preparedness, integrated multiagency response, and operational lessons learned. Together, these case studies provide practical strategies to strengthen prevention, preparedness, response, and resilience for future terrorism incidents.
